Same Dress, Different Awards: Oscar Rivals Jennifer Lawrence and Lupita Nyong'o Duke It Out in Fashion Faceoff
Oscar hopefuls Jennifer Lawrence and Lupita Nyong'o share more than just a race to win a tiny gold statue for Best Supporting Actress on March 2.
The lovely ladies also share a similar taste in fashion and hit the red carpet in nearly identical Christian Dior couture gowns. The "American Hustle" star first wore the dress to the Golden Globes 2013 at the beginning of her run towards the Best Actress gong for "The Silver Linings Playbook." The "12 Years a Slave" actress followed Jennifer's lead one year later and donned an updated version of the dress to the BAFTAs on Sunday in London. Let's take a look at their ensembles from head-to-toe.
What they wore: A Christian Dior Fall 2012/2013 Couture ball gown in rich jewel tones and adorned with a waist-cinching metallic belt. J.Law, 23, rocked the 2012 frock in a red color while Lupita opted for a cooler, emerald green shade from the 2013 collection.
How they styled it: The Oscar rookie, 30, kept up the rich, jewel tones with her makeup and added matching green eyeliner, a shimmery eye shadow, a bright red lip color, and a demure set of pearl earrings. Lawrence, who is also the face of Dior, turned up the heat with a heavily-lined smoky eye, a pale pink lip gloss, and swept back tresses. She teamed her look with a set of eye-catching Chopard drop earrings.
The bodice of the dress is what separates these two ensembles. Lupita's green gown features a straight neckline and flares out near the top of her thighs. Jennifer's gown is adorned with a corset-style bust and showcases a series of pleats starting in the bodice of the full skirt. Both designs were worn with a gold metallic belt, but Lupita continued the flashy trend by accessorizing with a set of Ana Khouri gold cuffs and red nails. Lawrence decided on nude nails, a diamond ring, and a sparkly clutch.
Judge’s scorecard: From head to toe, both women are truly winners. However, from the side angle, Lupita's green gown is truly eye-catching. The color is not only striking, but the fit of the gown accentuates her tiny frame without overpowering her. Lawrence's red dress is still one of our awards show favorites, but we were never particularly fond of the darted bodice.
