Three people have died and at least 10 seriously injured following a road accident near Salgaa along the Nakuru- Eldoret Highway.
The accident occurred after a truck heading towards Nakuru town collided head on with a Kitale shuttle Nissan Matatu travelling on the opposite direction.
More than four vehicles were involved in the accident, which occured at 6.20pm causing a huge snarl up along the busy highway.
“The accident involved about four vehicles which included two matatus and two trucks and three people have been confirmed dead,” said Molo OCPD Litabalia Achesa.
An eyewitness Collins Muthembi said one of the trailers was trying to overtake when it collided with the matatu heading on the opposite direction.
“One of the trailers was speeding and was trying to overtake when it collided with the matatu which was on the climbing lane,” Muthembi said.
Two of those who died on the spot were in the matatu while the other victim was in one of the trailers.
Police from Molo had a difficult time controlling traffic and removing the vehicles from the scene.
Heavy rains at the scene of the accident made rescue efforts and the clearing of the road difficult.
Molo OCPD Litabalia Achesa said three people had been confirmed dead but added that the exact number of those injured was yet to be established.
The area where the accident happened is one of the renowned black spots along the Nakuru- Eldoret highway.
The OCPD cautioned motorists to be careful while using the road especially during the current rainy season.
