Finance assistant Minister Dr Oburu Oginga has denied allegations that the Odinga family owns land in Mavoko Municipality.
Dr Oburu however admits that the family has a piece of land at the internal container depot in Nairobi and not within Mavoko municipality as was alleged by Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu. (READ: MP claims PM Odinga behind Embakasi demolitions)
The Bondo legislator rubbished claims by Mr. Waititu that the Odingas were some of the top Government officials who influenced the Kyang’ombe and Syokimau demolitions because they own land in the area.
He said the land they own is in Nairobi and that they bought it from former cabinet minister Waruru Kanja over 30 years ago when there was nobody settling on it.
“Our land is in Nairobi and we bought it 30 years ago but we have been unable to develop it because some people suddenly occupied it and we could not evict them” said Mr. Oburu.
The Assistant Minister however manner the evictions in Kyang’ombe and Syokimau were conducted, terming it barbaric and inhuman.
Dr. Oburu was speaking in his Bondo constituency during the ongoing ODM party grassroots elections.
