Mutula criticises 'Ocampo Six', supporters over planned rallies

David Ochami And Moses Njagi Justice Minister Mutula Kilonzo dismissed rallies proposed by the ‘Ocampo Six’ on Monday upon their return.
He also accused church leaders officiating at the ‘Ocampo Six’ prayer meeting of hypocrisy.
The minister declared that the Ocampo Six and their supporters at The Hague should go back to Parliament to debate Bills required to operationalise the new Constitution.
"I have a message for the Ocampo Six and their supporters at The Hague: They should cancel the rallies and redirect their energies to Parliament."
Mutula, who has opposed the Kibaki administration’s stand on the ICC cases, said the rallies were meaningless, as they ignored the real victims of post-election violence.
He castigated Church leaders for holding prayers for the Ocampo Six at Afraha Stadium last week where victims of the post-poll chaos were neither invited nor acknowledged.
Meanwhile, Mathira MP Ephraim Maina has urged legislators to take advantage of the time granted by the International Criminal Court before the hearings on the confirmation of charges for Ocampo Six to reform the Judiciary and the police.
He said that by September 1, when the ICC suspects are expected at The Hague, Parliament should have undertaken far-reaching reforms in the Judiciary and police to convince the ICC to refer the cases to the country.
Elsewhere, a Cabinet minister has called for prayers for the Ocampo Six, saying they still remained innocent until proved guilty.
Youth Affairs and Sports Assistant Minister Wavinya Ndeti, however, said justice must be done in the case.
She was speaking at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos Town during the Southern Eastern Investment Conference that brought together investors and professionals from Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui counties.
