Clearance of two Ikolomani
hopefuls delayed over hitches

The clearance of two candidates for the Ikolomani by-election was delayed  because of anomalies in their documents.
First to run into a hitch was ODM’s Bernard Shinali who was turned away after he failed to produce form 9  as required by law. This delayed his clearance by over half an hour.

When  asked to produce the document,  Shinali shuffled through his wallet but did not find it.
He asked for ten minutes to look for the document but the returning officer Benjamin Tarus ordered him to leave the hall and return after 15 minutes.
Shinali was escorted by Assistant Minister Manyala Keya and Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito and walked straight to the clearing table.
Ford-People’s Collins Matemba who presented his papers in the afternoon was also turned away after his nomination certificate was found to lack his voter’s card number.
Tarus asked Matemba to go back and have the elector’s number inscribed in the certificate before presenting his papers.

New-Ford Kenya’s Bonny Khalwale Arrived at 11.45 am escorted by Housing minister Soita Shitanda, Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa and former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile.

Khalwale went through the clearance process smoothly before addressing his supporters who escorted him to the venue. He had also brought one of his bulls to the venue.
Tarus told the candidates to carry out peaceful campaigns.
